Jealousy

I never really understood it. The green eyed monster. Do I sometimes wish I had what other people have? Sure. That doesn’t make me jealous of them, though. More than not, it inspires me.

Also with other women. I’m only drawn to men, sexually, but I’m not blind. I’m perfectly capable of judging whether another woman is pretty. At least, to my eyes. For example, I’m a complete sucker for long hair. When I see a woman with hair longer than me, that doesn’t make me jealous. I just go in ‘awe-mode’ and chances are I will stare at her with admiring eyes. Sometimes I even say so. Why not? I just ogled her hair, might as well let her know I think it looks gorgeous.

Succes is another thing. I love it when my friends succeed in life. The greater, the better. I really don’t comprehend how you would not want the best for your friends. Often, they take you along for the ride and that, again, inspires me.

No. I have many flaws, but thankfully jealousy is not one of them. Be happy with yourself. It all starts with that. Try it. If you admire something in another person, tell them. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the response. Promise!

Magical Beasts & Creatures

It’s been a while since my latest blog. Obviously I’ve been busy with promoting The Empath, but unfortunately I also took a nasty spill of my horse and completely smashed my right foot.

Thankfully surgery went well, but it does mean I’m home bound till early August, at the very least.

So, plenty of time to write book III of The Fire Trilogy, but also time for something else.

My cousin, Tom van der Vlies, is a poet as well, so we decided to take on a project together. Inspired by JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we’re in the process of creating twenty poems.

Tom will handle the magical beasts and I will take on ten magical creatures. Some may be familiar to you from the books or the movie, others may not.

It may take a while before we have it published, but eventually you will be able to buy the complete collection.

To give you some incentive, here are the first two of Magical Beasts & Creatures!

Magical Beasts ( part 1 of 10 )
Unicorn

My bedroom slowly fades

Into the darkest of shades

My heart expectantly awaits

The galopping of dreams
I enter a realm of legendry

Wonder, magic , mystery

Genteless and also purity,

A horn appears, silver gleams
A flash of light so bright

Sprinkles stardust unto night

Like a comet in full flight

A whinnying of starbeams
Their is a unicorn at play

Just going his own way

I wish that he would stay

Untamable, so he seems
He will roam forever free

In that place I cannot be

Untill I graze eternity

I’ll ride you in my dreams

Birthday special – The Empath cover reveal!

Today is my forty-second birthday and as a gift to myself and all of you, I thought it would be nice to finally show you the cover of the second installment of The Fire Trilogy. So without further ado…. drumroll please!

Once again, Rhianna Davies – my cover designer – just nailed it! Thank you so much for understanding my completely warped brain and making my book come to life! I’m also very proud to have this specific model, who I promised to remain anonymous, but who some of you will recognize anyway (think of music, folks!)

I’m also very honoured to be recommended by one of the people who inspire me in life, Philip Carr Gomm, chosen chief of the OBOD and author of The Prophecies and Druid Mysteries. See the full cover here.

Dragon Moon Press will release The Empath on the 5th of May, the Dutch Liberation Day

The Blurb

Battersea Park Station. Home of the company. The kind we all need, but nobody likes to talk about. Tristan Visconti works for the company and his clearance level has just been upgraded. Why? Simple, because he and his team have exactly one week to save our planet from impending doom.

When Tristan arrives in London, he needs to convince his client, Catherine van Dyk, of her own powers to help save our world. Problem is, Tristan believes he is on a suicide mission and so does his team. His former lover, Eve, is behaving out of character and then there is Alan, Catherine’s ex. Like Tristan, Alan’s an empath, but he’s also a master of death and the company can’t locate his whereabouts.

As Tristan, Catherine, Alan and Eve take center stage, the company is fulfilling its own agenda. Question is, are they working to save the world or to help destroy it?

My dear author friend DM Cain has her next book coming out and I get to show off the cover!!

This next installment in The Light and Shadow Chronicles is called The Shield of Soren. Set thirty years before the events of A Chronicle of Chaos, this novel covers the story of mischievous trouble maker, ten-year-old Soren Nitaya and the events that change the way he will see the world forever.

BLURB

The Shield of Soren

Ten-year-old Soren Nitaya’s marked talent makes him the youngest soldier ever to become an apprentice to the legendary warrior, Raven Lennox. As a prince of Alcherys, he will be expected to fight in the eternal war against the Brotherhood of Shadow when he reaches sixteen.

But is the young prince up to the task when he’s more interested in causing mischief than in mastering weapons?

When one of Soren’s adventures goes off course, he unwittingly unleashes a deadly threat. It appears that an age-old prophecy is finally coming to pass, and Soren and his family must take a perilous journey deep into their enemy’s land. Does Soren have what it takes to save his country before the Brotherhood destroys everyone and everything he loves?

 The Shield of Soren EXCERPT

With a loud clang of metal slamming into metal, the final bolt was undone. Reign slowly pulled the door open, and Vincent found his breath catching in his throat.

High-pitched whimpering came from the tiny bundle of rags cowering at the back of the cage. Her long silver hair parted for a moment and Vincent could see her wide, silver eyes, terrified and innocent. Vincent’s skin prickled with discomfort. He hoped that Reign had a damned good reason for capturing a small child like this.

Beside the glass cage were two oil lamps, both resting unlit. Reign reached up and took one down. Then, in a single savage moment, he slammed the lamp onto the floor of her cage. The girl screamed in terror and covered her head with her hands, but he hadn’t been aiming for her.

The shattered glass gave way to a stream of oil that spread out in a pool across the floor. This seemed to scare the girl even more, and she began to cry quietly, sobbing into her clenched hands.

Reign looked back at Vincent. Excitement flashed in his eyes as he drew a match from a box in his pocket. A small flare of light, a flicker of sulphur and a small flame danced on top of the match. With another laugh, Reign tossed the match into the glass cage.

Vincent gasped as the oil ignited in a rush of intense heat. The entire floor of the cage burst into flames. Vincent tried to rush forwards to save the girl from a fiery death, but the heat was too intense. A hand tapped incessantly at his shoulder, and he tried to brush it away, but Reign grabbed hold of his hand.

“Look! Look!” Reign shouted excitedly, pointing at the cage.

When his eyes fell upon the cage, Vincent froze to the spot, his eyes nearly popping from their sockets. “But…how?”

The girl, who Vincent had assumed would be burning in agony, was somehow floating above the flames, hovering at the top of her cage. From her back sprouted two enormous wings of the purest white feathers Vincent had ever seen. The two beautiful white fans could only just fit within the confines of the cage, and as she beat them to stay afloat they fanned the flames beneath her.

It wasn’t just her wings that dazzled Vincent with their purity. Her whole body had adopted an ethereal, almost ghostly, silver aura, her hair shimmering with radiance. She didn’t seem too frightened any more, but there was a definite hint of sadness in her gentle eyes.

Vincent studied her carefully, struggling to catch his breath, which he hadn’t realised he had been holding. “What is she?” he managed to croak.

Reign grinned and draped an arm across Vincent’s shoulder. “She, my friend, is an angel.”

2017

Hello new year, what will you bring?
Will you bring us joy and happiness or pain and sadness?

I am what you make of me, the new year replies
I am not responsible for who lives and who dies

What I can give you is twelve months time to shape my year
It is up to you whether I’ll become something you love or fear

I’m always off to a great start
With champagne and fireworks lighting up the sky
Remember that feeling and carry it with you in your heart

That way, when my successor 2018 arrives
I will have brought only joy and happiness in your livesimg_6518

Release Day Blitz – Border Lines by L.E. Fitzpatrick

Today is the release day of Border Liners written by my author friend L.E. Fitzpatrick. Congrats, gorgeous! Wishing you a great day with sales that go through the roof!

If you like the supernatural and are looking for a real page-tunrer, this is the book for you!

Synopsis

When the perfect job comes up, Charlie doesn’t think twice about taking it. This is the break he’s been looking for and nobody, not even the rest of his team, can persuade him otherwise.

The job means working for an old enemy and crossing the border into London. Both are risky, but Charlie has no idea how high the stakes really are. The team will have to confront their past, each other and a killer who is closer than they realize. But can they all make it out of the city alive?

“We all remember that kid in Piccadilly. That determined look he had on his face as he willed all those people to him. Just using his mind, he pulled them close then blew them all to pieces. It could be anyone. Your neighbour, your friend, your lover. Remain vigilant. Reachers are everywhere.”

Border Lines is the second book in L.E. Fitzpatrick’s Reachers series.

Meanwhile, back in lalaland

Finally, editing for The Empath is done. Well, at least my part. My dear editor Pam is finetuning as we speak for the final round. Next up is my proof reader Lisa Gilliam to let me know if it’s any good or complete and utter crap. Always a nail-biting moment for me.

Working on The Empath made us realize we would have to make some changes in The Elemental as well. In theory, you should be able to read them both as a stand alone book. During the editing process, that came back to bite me in the arse. Pam and I had a whole discussion on how to explain some things more properly.

I really think you should change the dialogue.

That’s what Pam said to me and I actually agreed, but I couldn’t change the dialogue because of this tiny little detail; the conversation is also in The Elemental. So, what to do? After several back and forth emails with my publisher, Dragon Moon Press, they gave the okay to go ahead and revise The Elemental. Yay!

Come February The Empath will be released and the revised edition of The Elemental. For those of you who’ve actually read The Elemental, nothing shocking will be changed, but I wanted to avoid those fanatics out there who would rub my face in any inconsistencies. I know I would 😂

Right now I’m very busy working on the new book trailer for The Empath and the revisions in The Elemental. Oh, and did I mention the cover is absolutely stunning? It is! You’ll have to wait till Midwinter to actually see it, be patient. I’m also very proud to have found the perfect person to model for the front cover, but I promised him to remain anonymous, so I’ll keep my promise. If you recognize him on your own, I’m not to blame 😉

Between writing and editing, I hardly have time to listen to my favourite band and inspiration, Placebo. Thankfully they’re coming to Holland this November and I’m very much looking forward to that.

Samhuinn is coming up, another year has come and gone. I have so much to be thankful for. I found another publisher, I have an amazing team and very loyal fans, even in Japan. There have been times of doubt and you all helped me remember why it is I write. To share some of my world with you, to make the supernatural natural. To always remember, life is beautiful and so are you. Thank you!
